Mr. Citizen Patriot Announces “One American Dream” Message for America’s 250th Season
As the United States enters the patriotic season of its 250th Anniversary, Mr. Citizen Patriot, the living civic persona created and developed by activist Ted Hayes, together with family, friends, and supporters beginning in the summer of 2003, is announcing a new national message for America’s next 250 years:
The Revolution continues until we win it.
Mr. Citizen Patriot is a unique and unprecedented living American symbol. He is not a mascot, cartoon, or costume character. He is a human civic witness dressed in the red, white, and blue, calling the nation to remember its founding promises, confront its unfinished work, and prepare for a new era of constitutional fulfillment.
On July 5, 2024, Mr. Citizen Patriot appeared on the front page of The Wall Street Journal, in a photograph taken at the Santa Monica Fourth of July Parade. The image was also recognized by the Santa Monica Mirror, marking a remarkable public moment in which this living symbol of American patriotism was seen by national readers, public officials, business leaders, and observers of American civic life.
There Is Only One American Dream
Mr. Citizen Patriot declares that America does not have hundreds of millions of separate, private, personalized American Dreams competing against one another. There is only One American Dream.
That dream is not merely fame, money, property, education, business success, or retirement security. Those may be private hopes or personal blessings within America, but they are not the American Dream itself.
The One American Dream is the founding national dream of the United States: that out of many peoples there would become one people; that America would live out the truth it declared before the world; that liberty would not be reserved for some, but secured for all; and that the Republic would finally become what it said it was born to be.
It is the dream of E Pluribus Unum, out of many, one. It is the dream of Annuit Coeptis, that Providence favors the undertaking. It is the dream of Novus Ordo Seclorum, a new order of the ages. It is the dream of the Declaration of Independence, the Preamble to the Constitution, the Emancipation Proclamation, Reconstruction, the 1866 Civil Rights Act, the 14th Amendment, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s call for America to rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed.
The Revolution Continues
Mr. Citizen Patriot further declares that the American Revolution did not end merely because independence was declared in 1776. It continues until the United States fully becomes what it proclaimed itself to be.
The hot Civil War was fought from 1861 to 1865, but the cold Civil War has continued through the unfinished questions of citizenship, race, justice, land, wealth, constitutional authority, public memory, and national purpose. Reconstruction did not merely fail. It was cut short before its work was completed.
Now, in this 250th season, Mr. Citizen Patriot calls for the revival of Reconstruction, the awakening of We the People, and the activation of the long-latent Preamble powers of the Constitution.
A Chattel-Heritage Witness to America
What makes Mr. Citizen Patriot especially significant is his chattel-slavery heritage.
He arises from the people whose ancestors were not willing immigrants to America, but unwilling captives. They were seized, purchased, chained, stripped of homeland, family order, liberty, body, mind, and soul, and forced into America’s generations-destroying system of chattel slavery.
Yet chattel-descended American Africans, like Indigenous Peoples who were not immigrants to this land, have demonstrated profound loyalty, sacrifice, endurance, and patriotism, even after suffering slavery, dispossession, Jim Crow, exclusion, broken promises, and unfinished justice.
That is why Mr. Citizen Patriot now says to willing-immigration America:
What’s your excuse? You have none.
If the Indigenous Peoples and chattel-descended American Africans, after all that was done to them, can still stand for the Union, serve the nation, and labor to fulfill the Preamble, then those who came willingly must now join them in completing the One American Dream.
Day 1, Year 1
Mr. Citizen Patriot is launching preparations for January 1, 2027, as “Day 1, Year 1” of America’s next 250 years.
The date recalls January 1, 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, transforming the Civil War into a war for Union and freedom. January 1, 2027, is now being lifted as a civic marker for remembrance, repentance, reconciliation, revived Reconstruction, and national renewal.
Mr. Citizen Patriot also calls upon President Donald J. Trump to strengthen his Lincoln legacy by formally acknowledging, adopting, and elevating the moral force of H.Res. 194, the House apology for slavery and Jim Crow, and by helping open America’s next 250 years with a national call to complete the unfinished work.
A Red, White, and Blue Light
At this historic moment, Mr. Citizen Patriot recognizes Justices Clarence Thomas and Ketanji Brown Jackson as living constitutional symbols of chattel-heritage American Africans seated on the Supreme Court of the United States as the nation approaches its 250th Anniversary.
Their presence, together with the emergence of Mr. Citizen Patriot, shines a red, white, and blue light upon America’s deepest question:
Will the United States finally complete the One American Dream?
To help answer that question, Mr. Citizen Patriot announces the continuing development of the We the People Court of Ultimate Public Opinion, a civic and moral forum where the people may examine the unfinished questions of America’s Revolution, Civil War, Reconstruction, citizenship, justice, race, history, constitutional meaning, and national purpose.
This is not a government court. It is the people’s civic conscience.
The Next 250 Years
The Republic can still be kept. The Union can still be perfected. The cold Civil War can still be ended. Reconstruction can still be revived. The Preamble can still be activated. The One American Dream can still be fulfilled.
The Revolution continues until we win it.
And to win it is not to defeat America.
To win it is to finally fulfill America.
