The Homies & the POPz Return — A Royal Cricket Legacy, International Goodwill, and the Road to LA28
As the world prepares for the historic return of cricket to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028, the legendary Compton Cricket Club (CCC) is preparing a remarkable comeback.
Founded by Ted Hayes and Katy Haber, the internationally celebrated Homies & the POPz brought together American-born young men from Compton and formerly homeless men from Los Angeles, transforming the gentleman’s game of cricket into an instrument of personal development, international friendship, and goodwill.
Their extraordinary adventures included exhibition cricket at Windsor Castle, with HRH Prince Edward, the teams primary endorser in attendance, and a goodwill visit to Northern Ireland during the historic Good Friday peace process.
Now, we intend to do it again—with a new generation, a renewed mission, and an international audience.
Our proposed team will feature American-born descendants of America’s historic chattel-slave population, “US federal ‘black’ Citizens”, carrying forward the original club’s commitment to English Village style, cross-generational mentoring, personal responsibility, sportsmanship, and international goodwill, most particularly the cause and legacies of Compton, California.
Our objectives include recruiting and training players, undertaking an initial overseas exhibition tour in February, developing international cricket relationships, and establishing a home exhibition venue in Compton in anticipation of the global attention surrounding LA28.
We are inviting sponsors, investors, businesses, and supporters to become founding partners in this historic comeback.
Support will help provide equipment, training, transportation, meals, insurance, player stipends, management, and the resources necessary to bring the team to exhibition readiness.
