We, the People, of “any of them”, authority citizens and supporters of constitutional inquiry, respectfully call for a temporary national moratorium concerning the ongoing controversy surrounding the Fourteenth Amendment and Birthright Citizenship.
We do not seek delay for delay’s sake, nor do we seek to predetermine any outcome. Rather, we seek understanding before judgment, education before adjudication, and constitutional clarity before constitutional consequence.
We believe the American people, most especially, those to whom it originally applied, deserve the opportunity to publicly examine the Civil Rights Act of 1866, the Reconstruction Amendments, the congressional debates, the presidential veto messages, the enforcement provisions, and the historical record from which modern citizenship doctrine emerged.
We believe these foundational materials should be studied openly and carefully by citizens, educators, faith leaders, public officials, civil-rights organizations, and members of the legal community and significant members of the Beneficiaries Inheritors of the REMEDIAL Federal law, before decisions of potentially permanent consequence are reached. To not do so would amount to unwarranted, in any fashion, cruel and unusual punishment.
We therefore call upon the President of the United States, the Congress, the Supreme Court, civil-rights organizations, educational institutions, faith communities, and citizens of every background to participate in a National Education Campaign on Constitutional Federal Citizenship.
The question before the nation is too important for slogans, too important for assumptions, and too important for haste. It deserves examination, reflection, and informed public understanding.
Let the historical record be examined. Let the deed be read. Let the treasure chest be opened. Let the Room be entered. Let the American people revisit the history, purpose, and intended protections of the Reconstruction era before rendering judgment on matters that may affect generations yet unborn.
Only through such examination can a constitutional republic act with confidence that it has understood its own foundations. Therefore, in the spirit of civic responsibility, constitutional fidelity, and national reconciliation, we respectfully call for a temporary Fourteenth Amendment Moratorium and a National Education Campaign on Constitutional Federal Citizenship.
Education Before Adjudication. Understanding Before Division. Truth Before Consequence.
Shalom and Peace.
