Note:
It took me a while to compile this statement, of which, after reading it, you may not want to do the documentary or anything else, of which, should you elect so, I will be just fine, being able to understand your or anyone else’s reasoning not to do so. (smiles)
It’s a bit lengthy, but if you’re going to work on this document, it provides some general content to consider between now and when I return.
The Transparency
For your sake and ours together, it’s my view that I should be as transparent with you as possible.
As we begin to “walk” this long, exciting and challenging journey together, I hope that as a documentarian, and feature movie-film producers, etc., that as a journalist, agreeing or disagreeing with my beliefs, policies, and practices has no bearing on your own, but can objectively tell the story.
I intend to be as transparent with you as possible, so that later, when we are deeply involved in projects, we don’t fall out over my beliefs, policies, and practices. This is particularly important, given that you are reporting, rather than seeking agreement or disagreement.
However, as with anyone else, I am willing to answer to the best of my ability any question or challenge regarding their beliefs, policies, practices, and intentions, and am open to change, adjustments, and so on.
Furthermore, whatever your beliefs, policies, practices, and intents are, it’s not for me to attempt to change, but rather accept you as you are lovingly and civilly. As you know, we don’t agree with others on every point, politically, spiritually, etc., which is fine, as long as we respect each other and work towards accomplishing the projects.
As it is not for me to convince myself, nor anyone who views my efforts, nor is it for you or them to do so with me.
Instead, it’s my purpose to simply state my truths, facts, opinions, etc., allowing others to accept or reject without any coercion from me.
Even Ronda and I don’t agree on a lot of matters, yet, we can live, work, and play together, of which is expected of us.
Politics: Partisan and Non-Partisan
- Democratic Party – As a black person, my family was Democratic, except for my eldest brother, who was a Republican.
When I visited him in Wisconsin in 1984, he took me to the Rippon School House where the 1954-56 Republican Party was born. Still, I remained a Democrat, not because of intellectual reasoning, but rather, unthinking-emotional tradition, i.e., “Blacks are Democrats.”
- After thinking, in 1988, I realized that the Democratic Party was bogus for me, and of course, unthinking blacks, I became an Independent.
- In 1993, as an Independent, I ran for Los Angeles Mayor.
Out of 25 candidates, I tied for 9th place with three other candidates who each raised and spent at least $500,000, garnering 3,000 votes, whereas I raised and spent the same amount, $3,000. LA Times closing campaign editorial stated that “Dollar for vote, Ted Hayes won the election by a landslide”.The winner, Republican, and later became my friend and supporter of Dome Village, Richard Riordan, spent $47.00 per vote.
- In 2000, as an Independent, I ran for the Los Angeles City Council, 9th District. Came in third, again, on a very slim budget.
- Republican Party: In 2003, upon learning the past roes of both the Democratic and Republican Parties around the matter of the 245 years (1619-1865) chattel slavery experience of my American African ancestors, immediately followed by 99 years (1866-1965) of Jim Crowism of which I’m a survival, I join the national and local Republican Publican.
- In 2008, I ran for Congress against Maxine Waters. Just didn’t have the funds to pull it off…thanking GOD it didn’t win.
- In 2008, after getting close to the LA County Republican Party and realizing that their policies and practices were not truly Republican, I returned to being an Independent. Still, I remained part of the original 1854-56 Party.
The 1854-56 Party of which Abraham Lincoln joined and became first Republican President, I remain “militantly” active, a non-partisan of that original mindset because its priority was liberated the chattel slaves, and ensuring our specialized, US federal citizenship “as is enjoyed by white citizens” (Section 1, 1866 Civil Rights Act)
In 1877, by the Democrat – Republican Compromise over the state and fate of newly accredited citizens, i.e., former chattel slaves and freedmen (non-slave African Americans), the partisan Republicans abandoned and returned us to the Democratic Party, which was the birth of Jim Crowism, lasting until 1964.
From 1877 to 1954, the partisan Republican Party was deafeningly silent while for 75 years while the Democratic Party members, and the KKK, its paramilitary, terrorist arm, beat, robbed, murdered, lynched, legislated, and discriminated against federal citizens. - In 1954, by advocacy of partisan Republican, the Hon. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and US Supreme Court, Chief Justice Earl Warren, and Civil Rights attorney, Thurgood Marshall decided the “Brown vs. Board of Education” in favor of federal citizens students to receive equal opportunity to literacy as is enjoyed by white students.
- Since that time, the Republican Party has returned to its abandonment of the original, 1854-56 intentions, and not until 2016, with the Presidential election of Donald J. Trump, did it demonstrate a modicum of return to them.
Religion or Spirituality
- Brought up in a family that was Southern Baptist Christian by unthinking tradition, in the 1970s, I became a conscious leader of the Jesus People movement in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire. I later transitioned from being identified as Christian, into being an evolving Jew, maintaining that Jesus/Yeshua is Ha Mashiach.
- As such, my Faith in other Faiths, on none, is tolerant, being judged by how such manifests on earth, among fellow human beings, particularly those less fortunate than us, i.e., homeless persons, of which Yeshua identifies himself with, hence, I’m in cognizant support of Eretz Israel, and seek justice for all Arab and Islamic Peoples.
Note: Most homeless people on earth are Muslim, and they are without a voice, for which I provide them with mine.

The Controversies
- Immigration – Illegal and Its Effects on the US Federal Government and Its Citizens
As a person who has been brought not to be racist, or anti-any people, even those who may prejudice against, such the white supremacist that I had to endure during my 15 years (1951-1964 passage of the Civil Rights Act) of Jim Crowism, followed to this day of systemic racism against me and my folks, to not despise them, even though I might have to philosophically “tangle” with my detractors, looking ways to reconcile. That is deeply within my “DNA”, thanks to my Jim Crowed parents
While to a degree, being for legal immigration, I am in no way for illegal immigration, becoming aware of the border matter in late 2004, and wage demonstrations against the practice which, as every negative occurrence in the USA, American Africans, i.e., US federal citizens according to the 14th Amendment and other little known related federal laws.
Until recently, the vast majority of those who for whatever, either oppression within their homelands, or simply seeking a better lifestyle, elected to by-pass the immigration portals established by the US Constitution in Article 1, Section 8, thereby infringing upon us American African whom are historically for 405 years at the bottom of American society, upon whose chattel enslaved ancestors’ backs, this erroneously purported “nation of immigrants” under GOD is built.
For years, dating back to Justiceville in 1985, half of the homeless residents in the encampment were illegal aliens, whom we endearingly called my “Border Brothers”, and we got along just great.
The only challenge that I had with them was keeping my Border Brothers and the USA citizens, Mexicans, from trying to kill each other.
As my parents taught me, assisting all people without prejudice, I, through Justiceville, blessed my beloved amigos up to the 13 years of Dome Village, where we clothed, fed, and annually produced Felis Davida, Thanksgiving, Easter, and other holiday occasions.
Several Mexicans were on my staff at Dome Village for years, and on the Justice Board. When I was a candidate for the 2000 LA City Council 9th District, my campaign manager was Mexican, whom I taught the ins and outs of electoral politics, having previously run for LA Mayor in 1993.
Ronda and I started a skating club with the children from the neighborhoods of the 18th Street gangs, and through which I inlined at leisure.
The notorious 18th Street gang never harassed us in any way, because they recognized my efforts in their and other Hispanic/Latino neighborhoods.
During the time when the urban farmers were evicted from their massive garden, I helped lead demonstrations and marches, even chanting with a battery-operated megaphone, “Se Si Puede” – Yes We Can!
Then, the most significant contribution to that community was the co-creation of the Compton Homeless & The POPz, which helped many young, teenage Mexican boys utterly change their lives for the better.
Since 1985, I was the darling of that community, until federal citizens awakened me to the danger that the massive undocumented immigrants crossing the border posed to federal citizens.
After several months agonizing over the matter, as I had to take a stand, my position was made clear at a news conference in Lemert Park, South Central, in January 2005.
From that time to now, I have been maligned, verbally abused being call by them “Black Nigger”, a “dirty” Jew, called KKK, Nazi, even you tube videos of lynching me.
I was confronted in a downtown restaurant, even thrown in jail by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, whom I thought was my friend for trying to meet with him to civilly discuss the matter, whose chief deputy, privately admitted in whisper tone in the mayors office, that “illegal immigration has devastated, devastated the black community and we just know what to do about, it’s so pervasive.”
Dailey, federal black citizens are being ethno-racially cleansed from what was once their neighborhoods, even terrorizing senior citizens who can’t move, not having anywhere to go.
All of this, the media, and especially my black, federal citizens, African American, Civil Rights leaders, and Christian ministers have elected to remain silent about this ethnic cleansing, even unwisely supporting it, thinking that they will be spared.
Even my life has been threatened and protested against from here to Chicago, to Maryland, DC, et al. to the point that I avoid even driving through East LA and other such areas, and I don’t go out a night alone, due to the frightening threats.
When Ronda’s parents took with her and her family on an ocean cruise and stopped in Mexico, I would not go ashore, for fear that someone there might recognize me from Mexican media appearances.
On numerous occasions I have offered civil dialogue in search of amicable agreements in a very tough, emotional, sensitive matter, only to rejected and spurned, even I have done more for the Hispanic-Latino community in LA that most Hispanic/Latinos themselves have.
All of this hatred of my person, not my works for them, stems from the La Raza movement, meaning “For their race everything. For other races, nothing,” and “Wherever a Mexican is located, is Mexico.”
Wow! I was so hurt and surprised to tears about their racism towards blacks, because it’s my misguided view that we had a Brown-Black coalition against injustice.
Even my Mexican friends, finally, and privately, after all the years working with them, admitted that there is considerable anti-Black racism against us by a significant component of the Hispanic/Latino communities.
I was shocked and depressed to know that someone could be hated simply for expressing a point of view in their own country.
I thought that it was bad enough catching racism grenades from white people, but now Hispanics too. Umph!
What next are we going to get from America, a land that our ancestors didn’t even want to come to?
In all my demonstrations, by the hundred, they accosted me and my followers with racist rhetoric, threw frozen, plastic water bottles, and spat on us, simply because I/as a federal citizen, with the assistance of other non-black US citizens, wanted to express concerns for our fate in our own country. If we tried this in their countries, they’d beat and murder us for sure.
The LA Times, the Sheriff department under former Sheriff Baca, stated that there is a growing racist animosity by Hispanic/Latinos against black federal citizens.
Our 14th Amendment birthright citizenship is being stolen from us to point, if not soon abated, I and others firmly believe that black citizens for whom federal law is intended will soon become politically inconsequential, leading to eventual genocide.
When they raise their eyebrows at this “wild hysterical” accretion, I respond kindly, though, “Oh yeah, you don’t believe, ask the Indigenous Peoples – ‘Indians’. Then it abruptly says, Oh yeah, oops, almost forgot, tragically they aren’t here anymore.”
They get quiet then, because America, like any country, is capable of such a ghastly act.
If allowed to freely and civilly speak to the Hispanic/Latino peoples, especially the “Border Brothers”, many of whom are my friends, they would listen and heed.
Also, pretty much the same factor is with the African American leadership.
My friend, the Vice President of the Ingelwood NAACP, just told me the other day that the African American leaders are saying, “Watch out. Ted Hayes is trying to start a movement.”
When I explained my position to the Companenos and Companeros, the Border Brothers, they replied, “We did not know, Mr. Ted.”
Therefore, knowing this, the La Raza element has threatened that “Ted Hayes is never allowed to conduct a public rally ever again in LA, lest we come and shut him down.”
It’s sort of funny, just last Memorial Day, I was walking Mr. Patriot on Ocean Front walk, my eldest son and a young Hispanic/Latino boy verbally assaulted me because of my Mogan David Star, ignorantly saying that only white people can be Jews, and proceeded to tell me how to be “black”. (smiles)
Fortunately, he didn’t get tossed out there, because just about that time, a small group of young, dark skinned like me, blacks rolled up, as he attempted to get them against, when they retorted, “What’s Wrong with him being Jewish?”.
Then the young, ignorant, intoxicated man knew then that he had better move on about intoxicated business, while he could.
Due to the protection of my family and other circumstances, I have wrongly silenced myself on this matter, until hopefully, GOD will fix it someday soon.
Look, I can go on like this, but won’t at this time.
To this day, I have no animosity or ill will towards these folks, as I don’t blame them for their actions, because it’s not their fault, given the governments of their country and the feckless failure of our own to rectify this.
Now, I do have a remedy for all this, and when the time is right, I will once again seek to aid my beloved, oppressed Border Brothers.
Nonetheless, if you are going to produce a documentary on my life, agree or disagree, it’s only fair and proper to yourselves that you know all this and more.
Transgenderism and LGBT+ Communities
My parents taught me that I had the right in this country to love and be with anyone I chose, as long as they are human, female, and biologically supposed to walk upright on two legs, as some beings are disabled and can’t.
They strongly admonished me never to bully, nor poke fun at the disabled, nor homosexuals of any sort, nor am I to involve myself, either.
Nonetheless, throughout my life, I have always shown decency, trust, and fellowship to “gay and lesbian” individuals, hugging, etc.
Such persons were equally treated in Justiceville. Several were residents in Dome Village, including transgenders, i.e., transvestites, and even had the medical change, etc., and no one harassed them. They felt at home with us and participated in programs.
During the Christmas – Chanukah season of 1992, during the height of the aides scare, I set up a an exhibition of domes in West Hollywood in a small part on the corner of Crescent Heights and Santa Monic Blvd., and fasted 21days on behalf of gay folks whom were made homeless, because when their partners found out they had the disease the unmercifully kicked them to the streets.
We went there to offer the City our assistance with domes, etc..
One time, when being interviewed, on a high rated, live radio programs, I was so compassionate about, to the point of tears, that the reporter asked if I was gay. (lol).
My reply was no, but must one be gay to love and care about those who are, and needless suffering as these were.
Well, after 21 days of lobbying the White House City Council to avail, and seeing the cold-heartedness of that community towards its own, I was shocked, to say the least.
Of course I don’t frequent “gay bars”, nor any longer attending gay pride parades, my stance is yet sure, that I treat gay men and women, transgenders, et al, fairly, as long as they don’t abuse or bully me for not agreeing with their lifestyles.
The Islamic Communities
For decades, even before Justiceville, when I lived in Riverside with my family, we had dear Muslim friends and neighbors who shared meals, learned from each other, and worked together.
Then in during Clinton Administration, and the Bosnia Herzegovina Balken wars, when the leading Iman of the LA region conducted a demonstrating and protest at the Westwood Federal Bldg., against the ethnic cleansing Muslims were experiencing my the Chrisitan Serbians.
At the same time, no government, nor private person of notoriety would attend and show support, crazy ass, “Ted Hayes” showed up.
Even standing on the platform, around the Imam, and speaking in their defense.
Additionally, I helped create better dialogues between the Islamic and Jewish communities, which didn’t last.
Then after “9-11”, my dear, frightened of American black lash, Muslim friends beseeched my help, of which I responded by leading over 750 Muslim students from LA City Hall through downtown, and Skid Row, promoting my National Homeless Plan agenda, as show that they do care about Americans.
The event was supported by LAPD Police Chief, County Sheriffs, and other elected officials, including celebrity actors like James Edward Almos, et al. The day concluded with my speaking at dinner in the Mosque. I was their boy! (smiles)
The one year after “9-11”, noting the deafening silence of the 1.5 billion Muslims in the world who were not condemning the terrorist actions of the few, I wrote a resolution for LA Citizen that called upon them to do so. I was pretty mild.
However, when my City Council person read it, she not only agreed, but embellished it way beyond what I had composed, and the Council unanimously passed it.
Being so struck by it, I called a special meeting of the Dome Village residents who were also involved, as I had included them in the activism and informed them about it. We could not believe it!
Wow! When it was publicized, the Islamic community “blew up” and threatened lawsuits and demonstrations against the Council and Mayor, demanding a retraction.
Then, on the holy day of Friday Juma, my Imam friend gave a sermon against me. Afterward, with the mayoral representative, the Councilwoman, and other dignitaries, they joined them in a news conference denouncing and essentially putting a “fatwa” on me to this day.
For quite a while, being in fear of my life, as with La Raza, on numerous occasions, I offered to dialogue with my Islamic brothers civilly, but they refused.
However, one time they offered to dialogue at the mosque, but only if they came alone. Right! Of course, I refused for obvious reasons.
And once again, another reason that I don’t go out at night alone, as they don’t forget. I am regularly on my guard.
Thanks, God, though; He has assigned two huge and powerful angels and their legions around me, even since I was a kid, knowing that this day would come.
Over these last forty years, I can tell true story after true story of what has been going on and around my life, so much so that it is difficult even for me to believe. Who would have thought, Sgt. Hayes and Annie Dove’s little boy would be in these sorts of messes.
Finally, these are some of the controversies surrounding me, but I can also share many of the great, wonderful, and beautiful occasions, if not more, as well.
Still interested in a documentary?!?
