Who Donated Serious
Money to the Barack Obama Campaign and Who did not By Robert Oliver The original title to this article was “Who Donated to
the Barack Obama Campaign and Who did not.” I am compelled for
integrity’s sake to retract a previous assertion that I said that no
Democratic member of the Congressional Black Caucus donated to the Obama
2012 campaign due to the absence of their names in the public Federal
Election Commission database found on
www.fec.gov
and
www.opensecrets.org. What I discovered is that donations less
than $200 were not a part of the initial database. Therefore black
congressional donors may have given $199.99 or less. Therefore I will not say authoritatively that no black
congressman of the Democratic Party did not give to the Obama 2012
campaign. However I can comment on the serious money in the
campaign. Just on a whim, I decided to see who donated to the
Barack Obama presidential campaigns of 2008 and 2012, courtesy of the
Center for Responsive Politics (www.opensecrets.org). One notable was Harry Alford, CEO of the National
Black Chamber of Commerce of Washington, D.C., who donated $2300 which
was the maximum amount allowed by the Federal Election Commission.
Later he admited that voting for Obama was “the worst mistake I’ve ever
made in my life” (blackquillandink.com/?page_id=11867).
Alford is a Republican. For whatever reason Mr. Alford donated to the Obama
campaign, it proved that he had some measure of confidence in candidate
Barack Obama. He was willing to write a personal check to
demonstrate so. However what puzzled me was there were the
congressional supporters of Barack Obama who may not have contributed to
his campaign at all, in the 2008 and/or the 2012 election cycles, as of I have found many people of many occupations give at
least $200 or more to the Obama campaign. One nurse in For example, here is an actual FEC record for
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee: LEE, SHEILA JACKSON
The record did not indicate any substantial donation
to Barack Obama. The following is a listing of the current Democratic
